Republicans are aware that if the American public were allowed to vote, both without attempts to selectively thin the number of voters, and with accurate knowledge of the state of the world and the policies of the parties, then Republicans could not win more than a small minority of seats, and certainly not the presidency.
We are in the midst of a slow coup, intended to destroy the foundations of democracy in our country and to substitute in its place a neo-feudal fascist regime owned and operated by oligarchs and robber barons.
And the only thing that can slow down the oligarchs dismantling of all we like about our US government - is an informed, enraged, engaged, though thoughtful (and constructive !) public like we ain't seen since the hay-days of the Civil Rights and Environmental Movements, before the Republicans decided that protecting our life sustain environment mattered less than making a killing.

Take a look at this and check out the Citizens United link - it will prove my point - that things will be very, very ugly, if there isn't a strong, massive million person vocal uprising against this Russian Obligate American CEO we've handed out government over to.

pssst, pass it along. ;- )
What I want is for American politics to get back to something sane. One party intentionally broke things, and has yet to suffer any negative consequences for having done so. Unfortunately, they've rigged things such that the only way to provide consequences is techniques like this, which break things more.
Well, that or somehow achieving a massive voter turnout. Every opinion poll shows huge majorities of Americans don't like the direction the country is going, and disapprove of the Break It All policies and politics. If they voted--even in the percentages they did in, say, 2008, or perhaps a bit better--America would change drastically, and not even gerrymandering or vote suppression would stop it.
The US has the lowest voter participation rate of any existing democracy, which has resulted in electoral disasters. Less than half of qualified voters actually vote, and the Break It All Party is dedicated to suppressing that number still further. When people don't vote, we get catastrophes such as we got this year.
The regressives cannot win fair and open elections in which large percentages actually vote, and they know it. When more people vote, progressives win. We have the power, we have the numbers, and we're in the right.
And yet, people don't vote. I don't get it. And I don't know how to deal with the stupidity of it.
If anyone wants to make some noise, be sure to check out.
I've added the following two links in a short post on my Lucid Politics blog.
A group of congressional staffers who watched the Tea Party stymie much of President Obama's agenda has written a helpful booklet to describe the things those people did, why they worked, and how we can use those same techniques to defeat Trump. It is a guide for how small, local groups can form, maintain cohesiveness, and alter the course of history.
You can download it here: indivisible (right-click on that link and download the Word doc. The original is on Google Docs, but it's getting so much traffic it's hard to obtain, so I put a Word copy on my site).
Another good place to visit is http://www.theworldisaterribleplace.com/, which includes the OH CRAP! WHAT NOW? survival guide.
Am working on mirroring their videos at my blog, 4 down, 7 to go.
The videos are simple with posters of talking points that I'm taking screenshots of and posting under the embedded video.
One reason I got into blogging was because I was sick of seeing the internet crowded with astro-turfed repetition of fraudulent denier memes. We need more bloggers to start sites and drive home the consistent truth of science and such. Something to counter the internet contrarian machine which seems to be getting bigger all the time.
Now off to bed, I've got a couple days of serious snow shoveling ahead for me, need my sleep. Getting too old for that shit, then again, nice to be capable of still doing it. cheers
