September UAH up again

Roy Spencer reports that September 2016 was 0.44C above 1981-2010 average for that month.  That makes it the joint warmest September in the UAH record (according to the as yet unofficial v6.5beta).

With an eagerly yearned for La Nina now looking increasing like a 'La Nada', it seems that the fakes will have to endure a new warmest year in the UAH satellite record.

Much ignoring of this so far on the usual suspects' blogs.

WUWT excels itself by posting the UAH September update under a headline that tells a flat-out lie: "September Global Temperature Unchanged from August – but still cooler than 1998 or 2010".

In fact September 2016 was much warmer than September 2010 and exactly the same temperature as in September 1998.  That's according to the UAH data that the article links directly to!

Even in terms of year-to-date temperatures, 2016 is well ahead of 2010 up to September and statistically tied with 1998.

I guess you can claim to be right about anything if you're prepared to tell blatant lies.

Let's not forget that Spencer's (AFAIK) still-not-peer-reviewed v6 (now up to v6.5beta) revisions of the UAH data, 1st released in Apr 2015, subtracted almost 0.2° C warming since 2000.

These cooling adjustments are roughly an order of magnitude larger than the warming adjustments to temps made by Karl et al for NOAA, the ones that had the US Congress in a snit in June-July-Aug 2015, issuing subpoenas & threatening prosecution. Spencer adjusted his data in the direction the denialist oilmen in Congress wanted, so they were FINE.

Meanwhile, Carl Mears adjusted the RSS satellite data in the other direction, showing *more* warming, after compensating for satellite orbital drift. Even so, comparing them to the RATPAC radiosonde data, where actual thermometers are placed on actual balloons to measure actual temperatures of actual air, the satellites STILL understate warming.

Given the history of Spencer & his boss John Christy, & other available data, we must be skeptical/sceptical when they claim less warming than other datasets.

Another "hottest month": Troposphere temperatures for September 2016

Some highlights:

• RSS TTT had the hottest September by far at 0.806 °C. The previous hottest was September 2010 at 0.665 °C. 
• For RSS TTT (troposphere) to be cooler this year than the previous hottest year, 1998, the average anomaly for the next three months would have to be negative.
• UAH V6 beta could still be cooler this year than 1998. The average for the next 3 months would have to be less than 0.28 °C. September was 0.44 °C, making it equal hottest with 1998.
